Setting lives in MOTION towards God.
Nolan & Abby McLaughlin
Prior to starting Motion Church, Nolan served as a Student Pastor for 8 years in various churches across the country. He and his wife Abby, a teacher in San Antonio, have been married for almost 10 years. Abby and Nolan have a 3-year-old son named Kingston. They're expecting a baby girl in June 2021.
Nolan and Abby have lived in several cities across Texas, but San Antonio holds a special place in their heart. Their dream is for Motion Church to be a place where people of every religious background, race, gender, and socioeconomic status can show up and feel not just welcomed, but at home. They believe that church should be something that's fun and enjoyable, and not endured. Their desire is that through a creative approach, loving relationships, and tearing down traditional norms, they can help see a movement of God created in San Antonio.
MOTION CHURCH VALUES
God has given us an entirely trustworthy revelation, a divine book, HIS BOOK. The Bible. His words tell us of His original love.
Though written by human authors, its ultimate author is God Himself. We believe that the Bible is without error and that it is our standard for life today.
The Bible is the guide for our teaching and ultimately for our lives. Because of this truth, all of our beliefs, teachings and standards are derived from what the Bible holds.
2 Timothy 3:16-17
As a church, we choose to make much of Jesus. The greatest expression of God's love to humanity is through His Son, Jesus.
We believe that the message of Jesus through His death and ultimate resurrection is the most exciting thing to happen to mankind in all of history. Because of that, Jesus is the focus of the messages we preach, the songs we sing, and the prayers we pray.
Jesus is the bridge that spans the gap between God and humanity.
Jesus was passionate about people. That's the reason He came to this world; to spend time with people, to love people, and to rescue people.
Because of that, people are our passion. For us, it doesn't matter a person's ethnicity, religious background, race, socioeconomic status, or personality type, we just simply love and welcome people like Jesus did.
We wholeheartedly acknowledge that no one is perfect, including us, but we believe that God loves and welcomes everyone. Because of that, our goal is to tell as many people as possible about the love of Jesus so that they can make the free choice and accept His grace.
CREATIVITY is our approach
Church shouldn't be boring, uninspiring or dull. The Church has held the greatest story for the past 2000 years and that story deserves to be told in an inspiring and relevant way.
Our approach is to present the truth of God's love for humanity through Jesus in the most applicable, understandable and culturally relevant way possible.
In doing so we realize that God's Word, the Bible, does not change. The Bible is our standard of living and teaching. However, methods of approach to do ministry do change. We endeavor to meet people exactly where they are in the culture that they live, in a fun, captivating, and exciting way.
God and church should be fun and exciting!
1 Corinthians 9:19-23
Jesus was a friend to EVERYONE. There were no potential or actual
differences that Jesus would allow to separate Himself from people. He was KIND to EVERYONE.
Because of that truth, we accept EVERYONE. Regardless of whether or not we agree on politics, whether we have the same socioeconomic status, whether we are of the same race or whether we have the same worldview, we believe that Jesus' standard of kindness is our rule and standard for life and involvement with people.
Jesus loved EVERYONE and because of that, we choose to love EVERYONE.
We've been given the greatest gift that humanity could have ever received; salvation. Because of that, we choose to live a life that's generous!
We choose to be generous with our time through volunteering, generous with our prayers through praying for Motion Church, and generous with our finances through giving of our tithes and offerings to support the vision and goal of Motion Church.
We believe that our lives are the most effective when we are the most generous in every way possible.
2 Corinthians 9:11-15
God has a HUGE HEART for San Antonio. God simply loves PEOPLE. Our city is the 7th most populated city in the United States. We know that there are hundreds of thousands of people in our city that are far from God.
Our #1 GOAL is to tell as many people as possible about the truth of who Jesus is and what He can do in their life. As a church, we are willing to do whatever it costs to reach those that are far from Jesus.
We love PEOPLE just like Jesus loved PEOPLE.
